History
The history of BBVA is the history of the many people who, since the mid 19th century, have formed part of the financial institutions that have, over the course of time, united to increase their business potential.

The international presence of BBVA now dates back a century. In 1902, Banco de Bilbao (BB) opened a branch in Paris and, in 1918, another in London. In this respect, the Bank was several decades ahead of any other Spanish bank.

The opening in 1918 of our first branch in the UK marked the beginning of a progressive international expansion. Nowadays, BBVA is one of the largest financial groups on the global panorama. A great group that is moving forward, adapting to the needs imposed by an increasingly global market. Determined to create and take advantage of new opportunities, ready for the challenges of the global market.

BBVA is looking to the future, ahead of its time, seeking long-lasting relations with millions of customers, relations that will change the way we see banks and generate long-term value, offering a better future for society in the new millennium.
